FORMER CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER AT MONSIGNOR SCANLON HIGH SCHOOL CHARGED WITH STEALING NEARLY $120,000 FROM THE NEW YORK ARCHDIOCESE
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today the arrest of a former Chief Financial Officer for Monsignor Scanlon High School on charges of grand larceny for misappropriating funds from the Archdiocese of New York.
Keith Martin, 51, of Whitestone, New York, has been charged with Grand Larceny in the 2 degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 2nd degree. Both crimes are Class C felony offenses punishable by a maximum sentence of up to 15 years imprisonment. Martin surrendered this morning to Detective Investigators at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
It is alleged that from July 14, 2000 through December 24, 2004 Martin stole approximately $118,000 while employed by the Archdiocese of New York as the Chief Financial Officer of Monsignor Scanlon High School. Martin allegedly used a Business Visa Card issued to the school to purchase jewelry, clothing, meals, vacations, and other things for his personal use. According to court papers these purchases totaled $79,993.41. It is further alleged that Martin had himself named as the payee on a total of 28 checks drawn on the school’s account at the Hudson Valley Bank. These checks totaling $38, 087.21 allegedly were for the defendant’s personal and unauthorized use.
Martin was arraigned before Criminal Court Judge Doris Gonzalez and released on his own recognizance.
Assistant District Attorney Linda Tacoma of the Arson /Auto / Economic Fraud Bureau is prosecuting the case.
