FORMER OFFICE MANAGER FOR SOUTH BRONX REALTY COMPANY CHARGED WITH STEALING RENT MONEY FROM HER EMPLOYER

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a grand jury has charged a 43-year-old Westchester County woman with grand larceny and other offenses for allegedly stealing rent money from the realty company that employed her as the Office Manager.

Yvette D’Angelo, of Harrison, New York, has been indicted on one count of Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree, one count Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd degree, and 17 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 2nd degree. The alleged crimes are all Class D felony offenses. If convicted, D’Angelo could be facing a maximum sentence of up to 7 years imprisonment or a fine of up to $5,000 on each count.

D’Angelo has been charged with stealing approximately $6,000 during a nearly two-year period, from May 2005 until April 2007, while she was employed as Office Manager for Sharp Realty, Inc. at East 138th Street and Brook Avenue in the South Bronx.

It is alleged that D’Angelo collected rent in the form of money orders primarily from tenants who were recipients of Section 8 federal housing subsidies. Investigators uncovered evidence that D’Angelo added her name to the line ‘payable to’ and then deposited the money orders in her own bank account for her personal use. The alleged embezzlement came to light when an audit of the company’s books revealed discrepancies in the rent collection logs.

The case is being prosecuted by Senior Investigative Assistant District Attorney Richard Baker of the Investigations Division.
