BRONX MAN SERVING 25 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THE ABDUCTION AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A YOUNG WOMAN IS FACING AN ADDITIONAL 25 YEARS IN PRISON FOLLOWING HIS SECOND FELONY CONVICTION IN THREE MONTHS

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that for the second time in three months a jury has found a 25 year old Bronx man guilty of a violent Class B felony offense. Rohan Campbell was convicted on one count of Burglary in the 1st degree in connection with an incident on July 9, 2004 in which he broke into a private house, stole cash and car keys, and attempted to abduct a 20 year old woman.

State Supreme Court Justice David Stadtmauer set sentencing for Wednesday, January 31, 2007 in Part T-19. Campbell is facing a maximum sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment. The defendant already is serving a 25 year sentence for sexually assaulting a young woman on two separate occasions on August 10, 2004 after he forced her into his car at gunpoint and ordered her to engage in oral sex twice in a ninety minute period.

This most recent crime of which Campbell was convicted occurred as a family slept in their home in the Pelham Gardens section of the Bronx. Campbell broke into the house and stole cash and car keys that he found in a purse. He next entered a bedroom where a young woman was sleeping and forced her to accompany him. She managed to escape before he could force her into her mother’s vehicle which was parked in the driveway. Rohan fled but later was linked to the crime as a result of a DNA sample that he provided in connection with the sexual assault that occurred the following month in August of 2004. Still pending are two additional unrelated indictments in which Campbell has been charged wtih burglary and attempted kidnapping.

All of these cases are being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Aaron Kaplan.
