BRONX MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER IN THE STABBING DEATH OF HIS
CHILDREN’S MOTHER
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that William Vega has been indicted for murder in the stabbing death of his live in girlfriend, Yasmin Reyes, the mother of Vega’s three children.
The grand jury charged Vega with one count of Murder in the 2nd degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Vega is facing a maximum sentence of 25 years to life imprisonment if he is convicted of the most serious charge of intentional murder. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on Wednesday, July 10, 2007 in State Supreme Court, Part A.
Yasmin Reyes, 30, was stabbed multiple times on Saturday, June 9, 2007, allegedly during a heated argument with the defendant, who then stabbed himself in the neck. The couple’s 14-year- old twin daughters and 18-month-old son were in the apartment when their mother was killed.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Aaron Kaplan and Assistant District Attornet Denice Szekely of the Domestic Violence Bureau.
