RIKERS INMATE INDICTED IN ALLEGED PLAN TO KILL POLICE
COMMISSIONER AND BLOW UP NYPD HEADQUARTERS
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that an indictment has been unsealed charging David Brown with attempting to hire a hit man to assassinate New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and blow up NYPD Headquarters at 1 Police Plaza in Manhattan.
The grand jury charged Brown with two counts of Criminal Solicitation in the 2nd degree, a Class D felony offense punishable by a maximum sentence of up to 7 years imprisonment on each count. Brown entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment before State Supreme Court Justice William Mogulescu Brown has been ordered held without bail.
The indictment alleges that on at least two separate occasions between February 21, 2007 and February 23, 2007, Brown engaged in conversations with an undercover police officer whom Brown believed to be a “hit man.” It has been alleged in court papers that the defendant had offered to pay up to $150,000 for the completion of the two criminal acts. Brown allegedly spoke with the undercover officer twice on the telephone and once in person at the City Jail on Rikers Island.
Brown was being held on criminal contempt of court charges for allegedly violating an order of protection stemming from a domestic violence case in Brooklyn in 2001.
Assistant District Attorney Jan Kum of the Rackets Bureau is prosecuting the case.
