Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 25 year old mother has been indicted in connection with the attempted drowning of her five month old daughter.

A grand jury has indicted Carol Gonzalez, of 1452 Beach Avenue, the Bronx on one count of Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree, one count of Attempted Assault in the 1st degree, two counts of Attempted Assault in the 2nd degree, one count of Reckless Endangerment in the 1st degree and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Gonzalez is facing a maximum sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment if convicted on the most serious offense of attempted murder.

The alleged crime occurred on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 in the defendant’s apartment where, according to court papers, Gonzalez “did intentionally attempt to drown her daughter Elizabeth Gonzalez by submerging her in a bathtub filled with water” causing the child to suffer loss of consciousness and respiratory distress.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Asha Vaghela-Behr, Trial Counsel, Child Abuse / Sex Offense Bureau.
