BRONX MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHARGES OF CONSPIRING TO COMMIT MURDER
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that 27 year old Angel Aleman, has been convicted of conspiring to kill a former co-worker.
Aleman, of 15 Marcy Place, the Bronx, pled guilty to one count of Conspiracy in the 2nd degree, a class "B" felony offense. The people will be recommending a sentence of up to fifteen years imprisonment. However, State Supreme Court Justice David Stadtmauer has indicated that under the terms of the plea agreement, he will sentence Aleman to an indeterminate term of up to five years imprisonment when he appears in State Supreme Court on Tuesday, December 13, 2005, in Part T19. In addition, an eight year order of protection will be issued to the victim post release.
On February 23, 2005, following a month long investigation, Aleman met with an undercover detective from the New York City Police Department's Bronx Auto Crime Unit, whom he believed to be a "hit-man". Aleman agreed to pay the detective $5000 to kill a former co-worker for repeatedly rejecting his romantic advances.
According to the Criminal Court Complaint, Aleman provided the undercover detective with the name and address of his victim and paid a $100 deposit towards the proposed murder. Aleman was immediately arrested.
Mr. Johnson thanked lead Detective Martin Kuhl, and other members of the NYPD Bronx Auto Crimes Unit, and a concerned citizen, for bringing this matter to our attention.
