GRAND JURY CHARGES FORMER NEW YORK CITY POLICE OFFICER WITH HAVING SEX WITH A 15 YEAR OLD BOY

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a twenty- five year old Bronx man has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of engaging in sexual acts with a 15 year old boy.

Corey Jefferson, a former New York City Police Officer, has been charged with two counts of Criminal sexual act in the 3rd degree, a Class E felony offense and one count of Endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor. Jefferson is facing a maximum sentence of up to four years imprisonment on each count if convicted of the more serious felony charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on Monday, December 12, 2005 in State Supreme Court, Part A.

Jefferson resigned from the New York City Police Department before he was arrested on October 8, 2005, following an investigation by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau. The defendant, according to court papers, touched the victim’s anus and also persuaded the victim to perform oral sex on him. The alleged sexual encounter occurred on September 26, 2005 in the defendant’s car which was parked at a location on West 168th Street in the Bronx. The defendant allegedly met the victim, who was born in February 1990, in an Internet chatroom.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kathleen McGee of the Child Abuse / Sex Offense Bureau.
