TWO BRONX MEN ARE SENTENCED ON ROBBERY AND WEAPONS CHARGES FOR THE GUNPOINT ROBBERY OF A CO-OP CITY MAN

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that 25 year-old Larry Jones, and 24 year-old Willie Green of Co-op City, have been sentenced to terms of thirteen and eleven years respectively, for crimes committed during the January 2004 gunpoint robbery of 24 year-old Robert Moore, a Co-op City resident.

A jury found Jones, of 100 Donizetti Place, guilty last month of one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, with intent to use unlawfully, a class "C" felony offense. Jury deliberations on the charge of Robbery in the 1st degree against Jones ended in a hung jury. Acting State Supreme Court Justice Michael A. Gross sentenced Jones to a determinate term of thirteen years imprisonment.

Co-defendant Willie Green, of 140 Dekruif Place, pled guilty last March to one count of Robbery in the 1st degree. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Acting State Supreme Court Justice Michael A. Gross sentenced Green, a predicate felon, to a term of eleven years imprisonment.

The robbery, according to testimony, occurred on January 17, 2004, when Jones and Green approached Moore as he entered 140 Dekruif Place. Moore was pistol whipped before the gun was placed in his mouth as his possessions were taken, including $90 in cash, a cell phone and his jacket.

Moore called 911 and within minutes armed security officers Carmelo Perez and Daniel Garcia from the Co-op City Department of Public Safety responded. The two Officers canvassed the area, and spotted the defendants who then fled. During the chase Peace Officer Perez observed Jones reach into his jacket and pull out a gun. Officer Perez tackled Jones and held him until assistance arrived. Officer Garcia continued to chase Green and captured him a short time later.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney's Lawrence D. Piergrossi and Raniece Medley of the General Crimes Division.
