FATHER INDICTED FOR MURDER IN BEATING DEATH TWO YEAR OLD TODDLER

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today the indictment of a 24 year old Bronx man in the beating death of his two year old son.

The grand jury charged Angelo Vanterpool with three counts of Murder in the second degree, and two counts of Manslaughter in the first degree, in the death of Vision Redick, and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Vanterpool was charged with intentional murder, depraved indifference murder, and murder under another provision of the statute that pertains to a victim under eleven years of age when a defendant is over eighteen. Conviction on any one of these counts is punishable by a maximum sentence of 25 years to life imprisonment. Conviction on either charge of Intentional Manslaughter, or Manslaughter in which a victim is under eleven and the defendant is eighteen or older, is punishable by a maximum sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment.

The toddler had been left in his father’s care and was killed on March 29, 2005 in their apartment on Barnes Avenue.

Vanterpool, who’s being held without bail, is to be arraigned on the indictment on Thursday, May 26, 2005 in State Supreme Court Part A. Assistant District Attorney Adam Oustatcher of the Child Abuse / Sex Offense Bureau is prosecuting the case.
