BRONX MAN IS SENTENCED TO A TERM OF TWENTY-FIVE YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR THE RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A SIX YEAR-OLD GIRL

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 47 year-old Bronx man has been sentenced to a term of twenty five years imprisonment for the rape and sexual abuse of a six year old girl.

George Medlin, of 620 Trinity Avenue, was found guilty on January18, 2005 of six counts of Criminal sexual act in the 1st degree and three counts of Rape in the 1st degree, both class “B” felony offenses, for sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s six year-old daughter.

State Supreme Court Justice Caesar Cirigliano sentenced Medlin to nine concurrent terms of twenty five years imprisonment for each count of criminal sexual act and rape. Medlin must also serve five years post release supervision, and register as a sex offender. The level of his sex offender status will be determined fifteen days prior to discharge.

The incidents began around November 28, 2003 and continued to occur until February 6, 2004. On each occasion the child was left in the defendant’s care while her mother went shopping. The defendant’s actions were discovered after his victim told a friend what had happened. The friend then told her mother, who then told the victim’s mother. Upon hearing what happened, the child’s mother took her to a hospital, where the child was diagnosed with sexual abuse syndrome and vaginal lacerations.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Julia Chariott of the Child Abuse / Sex Crimes Bureau.
