BRONX MAN HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO A TERM OF FOURTEEN YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR A FEBRUARY 2004 ROBBERY
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that 38 year-old Jose Davila, has been sentenced to a determinate term of fourteen years imprisonment for the February 3, 2004 robbery of a 24 year-old woman. State Supreme Court Justice Martin Marcus imposed the sentence.
Davila, a predicate felon, of 3196 Villa Avenue, was convicted last month of one count of Robbery in the 1st degree for robbing Syreeta Johnson of her valuables.
The incident occurred when Davila approached Johnson in the laundry room of her building, asked her a question and then pretended to leave the building. The defendant re-entered the laundry room a few moments later, pushed a sharp object against the victim's back and demanded her belongings. Davila snatched Johnson's watch, ring, necklace, earrings and $18 in coins.
Davila fled and was chased by a good samaritan, until police apprehended Davila ten blocks away.
Assistant District Attorney's Asit S. Panwala, and Tania Stark of the Trial Bureau prosecuted this case.
