BRONX JURY CONVICTS MANHATTAN MAN ON MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 54 year-old Manhattan man has been convicted of killing a 53 year-old Bronx man.
Henry Greenlee, of 431 Convent Avenue, Manhattan, in a non-jury trial was found guilty of 1 count of Manslaughter in the 1st degree in the beating death of James Robertson. Greenlee , a predicate felon, faces a term of up to 25 years imprisonment when he appears before Acting State Supreme Court Justice William Mogulescu for sentencing on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 in Part T12.
The incident occurred on October 4, 2000 when the defendant went to collect a $35 debt from his acquaintance Robertson at the Tineo Deli located at 3861 Carpenter Avenue. Following a brief confrontation Greenlee, a large man of over 6’ and weighing approximately 270lbs palmed the victim’s head and slammed him to the floor. Greenlee picked-up Robertson, a small man of 5’9"and 170lbs by his belt and shirt and took him outside the store where he proceeded to ram the victim into the wall head first. The impact caused a catastrophic injury to Robertson’s spine instantly paralyzing him.
Witnesses testified that Greenlee just walked away from the scene leaving Robertson on the ground to die. Robertson succumbed to his injuries five months later.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Nancy Borko and Assistant District Attorney Troy A. Smith of the Trial Division prosecuted this case.
