GRAND JURY CHARGES FORMER CO-OP CITY VIDEO STORE MANAGER WITH MULTIPLE COUNTS OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE INVOLVING FIVE YOUNG WOMEN

Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced that a grand jury, tonight, indicted a 24 year old Brooklyn man on charges that he either raped or sexually abused five women who had worked at a video rental store that he had managed.

The grand jury returned a sixteen count indictment charging Charles Cabble, of 1306 Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn, with one count of Rape in the 1st degree, one count of Rape in the 3rd degree, one count of Attempted Rape in the 1st degree and thirteen counts of Sexual Abuse in the 1st degree.

The charges involved attacks against five women between August 2, 2002 and March 1, 2003. Three victims were seventeen years old. One woman was twenty nine. Another was twenty one and one was eighteen. According to court papers the alleged rape occurred on March 1, 2003 in an apartment on East 149th Street. It is alleged that all of the other attacks occurred at a video rental store at 2098 Bartow Avenue.

Rape in the 1st degree is a Class B felony offense punishable by a maximum sentence of up to twenty five years imprisonment. Attempted Rape in the 1st degree is a Class C felony offense punishable by a maximum sentence of up to fifteen years imprisonment. Sexual Abuse in the 1st degree is a Class D felony offenses punishable by a maximum sentence of up to seven years imprisonment on each count. Rape in the 3rd degree is a Class E felony offense punishable by a maximum sentence of up to four years imprisonment.

Cabble, of 1306 Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail at the City jail on Rikers Island. Judge Harold Adler raised the defendant’s bail at the People’s request. Cabble is scheduled to return to court on Monday, April 28, 2003 in Part F.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jena Rizzo of the Domestic Violence / Sex Offense Bureau.
