TRIGGERMAN IN MULTIPLE MURDERS AT THE CARNEGIE DELI CONVICTED ON ADDITIONAL CHARGE OF ASSAULTING CORRECTION OFFICER WHILE BEING HELD AT THE RIKERS ISLAND JAIL
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that Sean Salley, convicted of murdering three people at the Carnegie Deli in Manhattan, pled guilty in connection with an assault on a New York City Correction Officer while being held at the city jail on Rikers Island.
Salley pled guilty to two counts of Assault in the 2nd degree in the attack on Correction Officer Vincent Donovan on May 28, 2002. Donovan was injured while escorting Salley to a sink area to shave. Salley punched Donovan in the face causing him to fall backward and striking his head against the bars of a jail cell. Donovan received approximately eight staples to close the wound.
Acting State Supreme Court Justice Megan Tallmer sentenced Salley to a consecutive term of three and a half years imprisonment for the assault conviction. Salley was already serving a sentence of 120 years to life imprisonment for three murders and other offenses in the Carnegie Deli incident in Manhattan. This new sentence for assaulting the correction officer means that Salley will serve 123 and a half years to life imprisonment.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ginger James.
