BRONX MAN IS SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IMPRISONMENT ON ROBBERY CHARGES
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 38 year-old Bronx man has been sentenced to up to 18 years imprisonment for the gunpoint robbery of a 32 year-old mother of three.
A jury found Ricardo Roman, of 777 Fox Street, guilty of 2 counts of Robbery in the 1st degree and 1 count of Robbery in the 2nd degree in September 2002. Acting State Supreme Court Justice Peter J. Benitez sentenced Roman to a term of 18 years imprisonment on each count to be served concurrently.
The incident took place during the mid-afternoon of April 4, 2002 as the victim exited David’s Checks Cashed located at 864 Prospect Avenue. Eyewitnesses testified that the defendant ran up behind the victim with a gun and struck her in the head with the butt of his gun. When the victim turned to face her assailant, Roman pointed the gun at her head and demanded her purse. The victim dropped her purse and the defendant struck her twice more about the head and face before running off. The defendant was apprehended six days after the incident.
Assistant District Attorney Haydee Correa of the Trial Division prosecuted this case.
