BRONX MAN IS CONVICTED FOR THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF HIS NEIGHBORS

Bronx District Attorney Robert. T. Johnson announced today that a 35 year-old Bronx man has been convicted of the attempted murder of his neighbors in August 2001.

A jury found Raymond Martini, of 1955 Williamsbridge Road, guilty of 1 count of Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree for firing a 12 gauge shot gun at Joseph and Joanne Morello.

Martini faces a maximum term of up to 25 years imprisonment when he appears before Acting State Supreme Court Justice William C. Donnino for sentencing, on Friday, November 8, 2002 in Part T8.

The incident occurred on the evening of August 15, 2001 as the Morello’s heard banging noises coming from the defendant’s apartment as they prepared for bed. The victims went next door and knocked on Martini’s door, which was partially open. The victims observed Martini in the doorway with a shotgun pointed directly at them. The defendant fired one shot at the Morello’s as they fled unharmed. The victims returned to their apartment and called the police.

When the police arrived Martini was still standing in the doorway holding the shotgun. The Emergency Service Unit (ESU) responded and the defendant was arrested without further incident.

Assistant District attorney Nicole Keary of the Trial Bureau prosecuted this case.
