STING OPERATION LEADS TO THE CONVICTION OF A 34 YEAR OLD BRONX MAN ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that Daniel Castro, 34, of 1521 Sheridan Avenue, the Bronx, has pled guilty to Attempted Possession of an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child.
Castro entered the guilty plea before Criminal Court Judge Michael Sonberg, who sentenced the defendant to a term of one year in jail, the maximum sentence allowed by law. Attempted Possession of an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child is a Class "A" misdemeanor offense. Under terms of the plea agreement, Castro waived early release from jail as well as his right to appeal the conviction.
Investigators seized Castro’s computer last December 5, 2001 during the execution of a search warrant at his Sheridan Avenue apartment in connection with an investigation by the Nassau County District Attorney. A forensic analysis of Castro’s computer uncovered numerous pictures and videos of naked and semi-naked children either in sexually suggestive poses or engaged in sexual conduct. Investigators said the children ranged in age from two to eleven years old.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Elana Yeger of the Investigations Divisions’ Arson/Auto/Economic Crime Bureau.
