BRONX POSTAL WORKER IS SENTENCED FOR PLOTTING TO MURDER THE BOYFRIEND OF A FORMER GIRLFRIEND
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 37 year-old former postal worker has been sentenced to up to 22 years imprisonment for hiring a hit man to kill his former girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
Acting State Supreme Court Justice William C. Donnino sentenced Robert Wilson, of 2780 University Avenue, to a term of 7 and 1/3 to 22 years imprisonment for hiring a hit man to murder 33 year-old Samuel Jennings. On February 28, 2002 a jury found Wilson guilty of Conspiracy in the 2nd degree.
During the trial, the jury heard testimony that Wilson was angry that his former girlfriend would not agree to leave Jennings and reconcile. Wilson subsequently approached Sharod Brown who allegedly agreed to kill Jennings for $3,000. Testimony also revealed that Wilson gave Brown a .38 caliber handgun and showed him, on several occasions, where Jennings lived. Brown allegedly recruited a third man, 19 year-old Nathaniel Artis to assist him in carrying out the contract killing.
Police learned of the plot to murder Jennings when Nathaniel Artis’ girlfriend was arrested in a marijuana bust. Artis disclosed the conspiracy in an attempt to help his girlfriend.
Charges for their alleged roles in the conspiracy are still pending against Brown and Artis, both of whom testified against Wilson.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney’s David Kirschner and Denise Kodjo of the Investigation’s Division’s Rackets Bureau.
