INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN GRANT SNAGS ONE
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 19 year-old Brooklyn man has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempted internet tryst with a minor.
Hazaa Enrique Jimenez of 98 Buschwick Avenue, Brooklyn, was arraigned before Bronx Criminal Court Judge Ralph A. Fabrizio, on charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree, and Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child. If convicted of the most serious charge, Jimenez faces a maximum term of up to 1 year in prison.
It is alleged that the defendant, while in an internet chat room, on several occasions, talked explicitly about sex with an undercover detective he believed to be a thirteen year-old female. Jimenez, later arranged through e-mail messages, to meet the fictitious child at Yankee Stadium for the purpose of engaging in sexual intercourse. Yesterday, Jimenez traveled from Brooklyn to the Bronx where he was arrested. A gravity pocket-knife was found on the defendant at this time.
Mr. Johnson said "This is an example of how important it is to have an adult present when a child is using the Internet. Predatory adults posing as pre-teens have become a disturbing trend. The Internet Crimes Against Children grant allows my office to extend a helping hand to online safety".
Mr. Johnson thanked Richard Baker, Bureau Chief of Arson / Auto / Economic Crime Unit, Deputy Chief Detective Investigator Frank Chiara, Detective Investigators Shane Fitzsimmons, and Dana Navarez, for their assistance in this case.
Supervising Assistant District Attorney Andrew Kampel is prosecuting this case.
