FORMER CATHOLIC SCHOOL LAY TEACHER ACCUSED OF STATUTORY RAPE PLEADS GUILTY
Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson announced today that a 34 year-old former lay teacher of Cardinal Hayes High School arrested and charged with engaging in sexual relations with a 16 year-old student this past October has been convicted of rape.
Mildred Colon, of 131 Broome Street, Manhattan, appeared before Acting State Supreme Court Justice William Mogulescu and pled guilty to 1 count of Rape in the 3rd degree, a person engaging in sexual intercourse with another person to whom she is not married less than seventeen years-old.
Under the terms of the plea agreement Colon will face no more than six months in jail. The people recommended that the defendant be sentenced to a term of up to one-year imprisonment. Sentencing is set for Thursday, February 27, 2003 in Part M30.
Colon had sexual intercourse with the victim on three separate occasions this year, on April 5th, June 8th, and June 14th at the Capri Motel at 555 Hutchinson River Parkway, Bronx, New York.
